“The 2nd Tenor”
With all that’s going on these days, sometimes I find myself wishing I could just escape to a tropical island in the middle of nowhere.
Then I remember…I did!
How did a Cajun boy from Louisiana end up in Hawai’i? A long story, but the short version is that I just kept going left on the map. First, college in San Antonio, where after a BA and then an unsuccessful attempt at grad school, I again headed west, this time to San Francisco.
The original plan was to establish residency and then finish that graduate degree, but an unexpected temp job with an innovative financial services company proved too tempting to keep temporary. Decades later, I finally took a few years off to complete an MA in Teaching, unfortunately graduating right in the middle of a state-budget-crisis-driven hiring freeze.
So, it was back to financial services for a few years, then a short stint in the local school district headquarters, which proved to have much bigger issues than my business analyst skills could begin to address. My consolation upon quitting was to focus on making a reality of 20 years of renovation dreams for our old house.
That’s when Hawai’i happened. This time it was Andrew tempted by a tantalizing career opportunity, leaving me as the dutiful trailing spouse to pack up and head west yet again, and just weeks after renovations were complete.
That’s basically how I got here. So what am I doing now?
